Award Winning Charity Portrait Sessions at National Trust Box Hill

Family Portrait on Box Hill Surrey - Rachel Thornhill Photography

We are very fortunate to have some beautiful countryside around us here in the Surrey Hills, and the views from Box Hill are among the most stunning.

Following on from the success of last year's sessions to help support the National Trust Box Hill and their brilliant activities such as Box Hill Bugs, I am holding Charity Portrait Sessions on the dates below, giving you the chance to be photographed with your loved ones, against the beautiful backdrop of Box Hill.

And last year I received a Highly Commended from the Master Photographers' Association for one of the portraits that I created for a family at Box Hill last year during one of these sessions (above). Ray Lowe, Chairman of the MPA said "[as a family portrait] this just works, really well put together with lovely expressions."

So now is your chance to have your own portrait session! For families of up to 6 people*, I will capture the fun of family time with you, a taster of what it’s like to have a Portrait Session with me. Each session is around 30 minutes, allowing us to create a small collection beautiful images of you as a family, including your dog if you have one!

Sessions are held a few times a year on specific dates, and the fees for these sessions are £95, which includes your favourite image as 10x8” matted print worth £50, with the option to purchase further framed prints and artwork should you so wish.

And £50 from each session will be donated to the National Trust Box Hill to help ensure this land stays stunningly beautiful for us to enjoy for years to come.

To book a session, please fill in your details below, and I will be in touch to confirm the next available dates and times. If you'd like to tell me more about your family, or why you'd like to have a Portrait session, please pop that in your message.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these sessions right for me and my family?

These sessions are perfect for you if you want a seasonally themed update to your family portraits. After our time together you will have a selection of images from which to choose your favourites, to be displayed on your walls or in a storybook album. These sessions are half the time of my standard sessions, so they can fit in around a busy weekend.

Can I ask for a specific timeslot?

Sessions are available on a first come first served basis, and if you have enquired, I can hold the session for 24 hours while you confirm with family members. If you have other commitments on the day such as sports clubs, please let me know when you enquire below and I will try my best to accommodate you.

What happens if the weather on the day is bad?

Every outdoor session has a back up day which I ask you to hold in your diary. I watch the forecast carefully, the days beforehand, and I’m in touch with you the night before to confirm we’re going ahead. If the weather forecast is averse, we may well call it at that point and go to our back up day, but otherwise we’ll meet as planned. If during the session the weather turns, we’ll call it and reconvene on our back up day. I don’t expect my Clients to be happy shooting in drizzle or rain, so we won’t, don’t worry!

Can I bring an outfit change?

With these sessions, due to the time limits I suggest you stick to one outfit, but if the weather allows we can remove jumpers, coat, cardigans etc. If you’d like a longer session, I’d recommend a standard portrait session with me where we have much more flexibility for outfit changes.

Can I buy digital files?

Any framed prints, wall art or storybook albums you purchase will come with the corresponding digital file, free of charge. Digital files are not available to purchase separately, as they are never intended to be the finished product, but separate mounted gift prints are available to buy alongside a frame or album. To see more about these products, click here.

Where exactly do we shoot?

The Box Hill sessions are held at various places around Box Hill, all within easy walking distance of the car parks. Actual locations vary depending on the time of day, and I always choose places for the best light we have. We will shoot at several locations, so suitable footwear is recommended. At times the site can be busy, but I’m very aware of this and choose areas that are less frequented to help you feel comfortable during our time together.

When can we see our images?

At your session I will confirm to you your Viewing Appointment time, usually within 2 weeks. I come to you in your home and present to you your images, along with samples of all of the products that I offer. Here is some more information about What to Expect from your time with me.
