Why choose Rachel Thornhill Photography?

A few of my clients have recently contacted me asking if I do Photoshoot Gift Vouchers…. I do indeed! They are an ideal present for someone who might be tricky to buy for, or perhaps for a special birthday or anniversary.

But before I give you details of those, I think I need to tell you a little more about why a session with Rachel Thornhill Photography is different from any photoshoot you may have had before.

I adore capturing a moment in time for my clients, which is why my portrait sessions are much more than just sitting in a studio smiling. I believe that children especially really give us an insight into their world when they’re exploring outside, so I love to shoot in the wonderful open spaces around us here in Surrey. The amazing woods and views on Boxhill and Colley Hill can provide a stunning backdrop to your family portraits, and by combining sessions with a short walk (or even a Gruffalo, bug or fairy hunt!), make for a happily memorable session for the whole family. I have huge admiration for everything the National Trust do for us to preserve our countryside, and when I recently met with the lovely Rangers on both sites, they have agreed to allow us to use their gorgeous land for our portrait sessions.

But perhaps home is where you feel happiest. If that’s the case, let’s capture you in the place that means the world to you, so whenever you see your image, you immediately get that warm, happy feeling of home. I love that photographs can evoke such strong and vivid feelings and memories.

But your actual portrait session is just half of the story. Have you ever had a photo session, and been given the images on a disc, for that disc to be lurking in a drawer somewhere, and have never got around to printing them out? Or perhaps you spent hours uploading massive files to high street companies to be disappointed with the colours or the finish.

Turning your images into stunning pieces of art for your home is something I love! Do you have a modern home with minimalist decor? The Alumni metal print could look stunning given pride of place in your lounge. Can’t decide on your favourite image? A series of smaller canvasses or frames telling a story could look gorgeous on the wall in your stairway. A simply decorated bedroom? A Triptych (series of 3 images) in a minimal frame would look perfect above a headboard. Or perhaps your home is more traditionally decorated, and you would like your favourite image to match some of your other picture frames or decor. The pieces we create together will become part of your family’s story, and having them in pride of place can really enhance your home.

I use a company called Loxley Colour to fulfil my product orders. Loxley are only available to professional photographers, and have a huge range products for every taste, style and budget. Their materials are high quality and their print methods and resulting colours are vibrant, fade resistant and long lasting. I then take the time to ensure your image is absolutely perfect before it goes to print; although I keep retouching minimal, I do understand that sometimes, especially for us ladies, we may want a blemish or shadow removed!

So when you purchase a portrait session with me, not only are you getting my skills as a photographer, you’re getting a stylist, director, entertainer, designer and artist too! And that’s just why I adore my job.
